Bank Negara shows what happens to damaged banknotes

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has offered a behind-the-scenes look at how damaged and worn banknotes are processed at its Automated Cash Centre (ACC).

In a social media post, the central bank shared footage of the process banknotes go through after they are returned to the banking system.

“Ever wondered what happens to your damaged or worn banknotes once you hand them to the bank?” BNM said.

The footage takes viewers inside the ACC, where old and damaged banknotes are processed.

BNM also directed the public to its guidance on proper currency handling, which provides information on caring for banknotes and coins.
