World Steel Association: In August, global crude steel production was 144.2 million tons, down 1.2% year on year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to World Steel Association data, in August 2026, the world's crude steel production in 70 countries/regions included in the World Steel Association statistics was 144.2 million tons, down 1.2% from August 2025.

Africa's production in August 2026 was 2.1 million tons, up 8.8% from August 2025. Asia and Oceania produced 106.7 million tons, a decrease of 1.4%. The European Union (27 companies) produced 8.9 million vehicles, a decrease of 1.0%. Europe, Other produced 3.8 million vehicles, up 1.2%. Production in the Middle East was 3.7 million vehicles, a decrease of 4.6%. Production in North America was 9.4 million tons, up 3.9%. Russia and other CIS plus Ukraine produced 6.3 million vehicles, a decrease of 5.6%. Production in South America was 3.4 million vehicles, a decrease of 4.9%.

The 70 countries included in this table account for approximately 98% of total global crude steel production in 2025.

Russian production is estimated at 5.5 million tons, a decrease of 0.3%. South Korea's production was 5.4 million tons, an increase of 2.6%. Turkey's production was 3.4 million tons, down 0.4%. German production was 2.6 million vehicles, up 1.7%. Production in Brazil was 2.7 million tons, a decrease of 6.2%. Vietnam's production was 2.7 million tons, an increase of 36.4%.
