The Zhitong Finance App learned that in mid-September 2026, data from the China Steel Association showed that in mid-September 2026, steel companies produced a total of 19.22 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 1.922 million tons, a decrease of 0.1% month-on-month; pig iron of 17.7 million tons, with an average daily output of 1.77 million tons, a decrease of 1.4% month-on-month; 18.55 million tons of steel, with an average daily output of 1.85 million tons. According to this estimate, the country's daily crude steel production this season was 2.41 million tons, up 0.1% month on month. Daily iron production was 2.15 million tons, down 1.4% month on month, and 3.74 million tons of steel per day, up 1.7% month on month.

Quarterly report on steel production of key enterprises in mid-September 2026

I. GENERAL SITUATION

In mid-September 2026, according to key statistics, steel companies produced a total of 19.22 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 1.922 million tons, a decrease of 0.1% month-on-month; pig iron of 17.7 million tons, with an average daily output of 1.77 million tons, a decrease of 1.4% month-on-month; 18.55 million tons of steel, with an average daily output of 1.855 million tons, with daily production up 3.4% month-on-month (see Table 1).

According to this estimate, the country's daily crude steel production is 2.41 million tons, up 0.1% month on month (see Figure 1), daily iron production is 2.15 million tons, down 1.4% month on month, and 3.74 million tons of steel per day, up 1.7% month on month.

II. Situation by region

(1) Crude steel production

Among the six major regions in mid-September, with the exception of the daily crude steel production of key statistical companies in the Northeast, Southwest China, and South China, which increased compared to the previous quarter, all other regions declined to varying degrees (see Table 2 for details). Details are as follows:

Crude steel production in North China decreased by 50,000 tons (-0.8%) per day, or less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region decreased by 20,000 tons (-4.2%), the daily production in Shanxi Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-1.3%), and the daily production in Hebei Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-0.3%).

Crude steel production in East China fell by 50,000 tons (-0.9%) per day, or less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Jiangxi Province decreased by 50,000 tons (-6.5%), Zhejiang Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-8.8%), Fujian Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-5.7%), Shandong Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-2.8%), and Jiangsu Province decreased by 20,000 tons (-0.8%); in addition, daily production in Shanghai increased by 50,000 tons (+10.3%), and daily production in Anhui Province increased by 50,000 tons (+9.4%).

The daily crude steel production in northwest China decreased by 20,000 tons (-2.2%), or less than 5%. Among them, the daily production of the Ningxia Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-7.8%), and the daily production of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-3.9%).

The daily crude steel production in Northeast China increased by 60,000 tons (+3.1%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Liaoning Province increased by 90,000 tons (+5.9%); in addition, daily production in Heilongjiang Province decreased by 20,000 tons (-7.8%), and daily production in Jilin Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-2.5%).

The daily crude steel production in the southwest region increased by 10,000 tons (+0.9%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in Yunnan Province increased by 10,000 tons (+3.3%).

The daily crude steel production in the central and southern regions increased by 30,000 tons (+0.9%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Hubei Province increased by 20,000 tons (+3.0%), Hunan Province increased by 10,000 tons (+1.3%), and Guangdong Province increased by 10,000 tons (+1.7%); in addition, daily production in Henan Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-1.7%).

(ii) Pig iron production

Among the six major regions in mid-September, with the exception of key statistical enterprises in the Northeast region, where the daily production of pig iron increased compared to the previous quarter and remained basically the same in the southwest region compared to the previous quarter, all other regions declined to varying degrees (see Table 3 for details), as follows:

The daily production of pig iron in North China decreased by 80,000 tons (-1.3%), or less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in Hebei Province decreased by 60,000 tons (-1.6%), the daily production in Shanxi Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-3.3%), and the daily production in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-2.8%); in addition, daily production in Tianjin increased by 30,000 tons (+5.0%).

The daily production of pig iron in East China decreased by 90,000 tons (-1.8%), or less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Zhejiang Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-10.8%), Fujian Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-5.9%), Jiangxi Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-4.9%), and Jiangsu Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-1.7%); in addition, daily production in Shanghai increased by 20,000 tons (+5.3%), and daily production in Anhui Province increased by 10,000 tons (+1.0%).

l The daily production of pig iron in the northwest region decreased by 40,000 tons (-4.6%), or less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in the Ningxia Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-9.0%), the daily production in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-4.2%), the daily production in Shaanxi Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-3.7%), and the daily production in Gansu Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-3.3%).

The daily production of pig iron in the central and southern regions decreased by 60,000 tons (-2.1%), or less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in Henan Province decreased by 50,000 tons (-7.0%).

The daily production of pig iron in the Tohoku region increased by 20,000 tons (+1.3%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Liaoning Province increased by 50,000 tons (+3.9%); in addition, daily production in Heilongjiang Province decreased by 90,000 tons (-9.0%), and daily production in Jilin Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-3.2%).

The daily production of pig iron in the southwest region was basically the same as in the previous quarter.

(3) Steel production

In mid-September, the daily steel production of key statistical enterprises in the six major regions all increased to varying degrees (see Table 4 for details), as follows:

The daily production of steel in Northeast China increased by 26,000 tons (+17.2%), mainly related to an increase of 27,000 tons (+23.1%) in daily production in Liaoning Province.

The daily production of steel in North China increased by 13,000 tons (+2.0%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, the daily production in Hebei Province increased by 12,000 tons (+2.8%), the daily production in Tianjin increased by 20,000 tons (+2.4%), and the daily production in Shanxi Province increased by 20,000 tons (+1.6%); in addition, the daily production in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region decreased by 30,000 tons (-7.7%).

Steel production in East China increased by 70,000 tons (+1.2%) per day, an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Shanghai increased by 50,000 tons (+14.0%), daily production in Anhui Province increased by 40,000 tons (+7.1%), and daily production in Jiangsu Province increased by 20,000 tons (+1.1%); in addition, daily production in Zhejiang Province decreased by 20,000 tons (-9.2%), and daily production in Fujian decreased by 20,000 tons (-4.0%).

The daily production of steel in the northwest region increased by 10,000 tons (+0.7%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region increased by 40,000 tons (+15.8%); in addition, daily production in Ningxia Autonomous Region decreased by 10,000 tons (-8.1%), Shaanxi Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-6.0%), and daily production in Gansu Province decreased by 10,000 tons (-0.1%).

The daily increase in steel production in the southwest region was 70,000 tons (+6.9%), mainly related to an increase of 20,000 tons (+10.3%) in Chongqing, 20,000 tons (+6.8%) in Yunnan Province, and an increase of 20,000 tons (+5.8%) in Sichuan.

The daily production of steel in the central and southern regions increased by 90,000 tons (+2.9%), an increase of less than 5%. Among them, daily production in Guangdong Province increased by 80,000 tons (+12.1%), while daily production in Hunan Province increased by 60,000 tons (+9.9%); in addition, daily production in Henan Province decreased by 30,000 tons (-4.8%), while daily production in Guangxi Autonomous Region decreased by 30,000 tons (-4.8%).
