However, the “senior government official” remarks quoted in the report came from a background briefing organized on the initiative of the White House. White House staff clearly requested the reporter to anonymously quote the speaker as a “senior government official” at the beginning and during the call. The official said at the time that the possibility of a preliminary agreement between the US and Iran had risen to 80% to 85%. Afterwards, media reports said that the senior government official who was asked to remain anonymous was US Vice President JD Vance.
