Potential Entain Plc (LON:ENT) shareholders may wish to note that the Group CFO & Executive Director, Michael Snape, recently bought UK£250k worth of stock, paying UK£4.82 for each share. That certainly has us anticipating the best, especially since they thusly increased their own holding by 404%, potentially signalling some real optimism.
In fact, the recent purchase by Michael Snape was the biggest purchase of Entain shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being UK£4.60). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Michael Snape.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Our data indicates that Entain insiders own about UK£4.7m worth of shares (which is 0.2% of the company). Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. On this analysis the only slight negative we see is the fairly low (overall) insider ownership; their transactions suggest that they are quite positive on Entain stock. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. While conducting our analysis, we found that Entain has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore this.
