Omdia: PC shipments in mainland China increased 11% year-on-year in 26Q2 and are expected to drop 6% for the whole year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to Omdia's latest data, in the second quarter of 2026, PC shipments in mainland China increased 11% year-on-year to 11.4 million units. Among them, desktop shipments increased sharply by 42%, offsetting a 2% drop in laptop shipments, which were 4.3 million units and 7.1 million units, respectively. Meanwhile, due to weak demand and continued supply challenges, tablet shipments in mainland China fell 13% year over year to 8 million units.

According to Omdia's latest forecast, PC shipments in mainland China are expected to drop 6% to 39.7 million units in 2026. Annual tablet shipments are also expected to drop 10% to 32.5 million units.

The performance of the PC market in mainland China in the second quarter of 2026 exceeded expectations, mainly due to strong commercial demand, and shipments in this segment increased 29%. The increase was largely due to a surge in demand for equipment updates related to China's Xinchuang (Information Technology Application Innovation) program, which aims to promote the application of domestically produced IT technology. In contrast, consumer market performance was relatively weak, with shipments falling 2%.

“Demand for commercial PCs in mainland China, particularly from large enterprises and government agencies, continues to support overall market growth,” said Emma Xu, senior analyst at Omdia. As the impact of government subsidies gradually wanes and prices rise, consumer market demand has weakened this year. However, in order to lock in lower prices and reduce the risk of further cost increases in the future, inventory stocking by manufacturers and channels avoided a larger decline in the consumer market in the second quarter to a certain extent.

Xu Ying added, “After several years of growth, the tablet market is facing greater challenges. Consumer demand is weakening, and there is increasingly limited room for manufacturers to support sales through promotions. As market penetration reaches historic highs and demand increasingly shifts from initial purchases to switching devices, the tablet market is entering a more mature and stable stage of development.”

Omdia predicts that in 2026, mainland China's PC market shipments will drop 6% year on year, with consumer-grade PC shipments expected to drop 10%. The growth in the commercial market is expected to partially offset the weak performance of the overall market. Meanwhile, due to weak demand and continued supply restrictions, the tablet market in mainland China is expected to decline by 10% in 2026.
