The Zhitong Finance App learned that Qualcomm (QCOM.US) said on Wednesday that the company will acquire robotics software company PickNik to enhance its layout in the field of physical AI and robotics. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the deal is still subject to customary delivery conditions.

According to data, PickNik owns MOVEit, which is an open source robot operation framework. Qualcomm said that after completing the acquisition, MOVEit will integrate Qualcomm's own DragonWing Robotics and Arduino platforms to help build the next generation of robots. Qualcomm added that MOVEit 1 and MOVEit 2 will continue to be open source and support third-party hardware platforms.

Qualcomm executive Nakul Duggal said in a statement: “Robotics is one of the most exciting frontiers of physical AI, and software is the link that transforms great hardware into great robots. With its maintenance of MoveIt and its insistence on open source innovation, Picknik has earned a great deal of trust in the global robotics community. The two sides plan to jointly lower the threshold for developers to build advanced robotics applications on the Dragonwing robotics platform, while continuing to support the spirit of openness and collaboration that made MoveIT a success.”
