The Council of the European Union announced the extension of sanctions against individuals and entities that destroy or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine until September 22, 2029. The sanctions framework currently covers more than 3,000 individuals and entities, and measures include asset freezes, travel bans, and prohibitions on providing them with funds or economic resources. This extension broke the previous 6-month or 12-month regular renewal model and directly extended for 36 months. The purpose of this move is to avoid a stalemate in the renewal of sanctions due to differences in the positions of member states, and to ensure the long-term stability of the policy of pressure on Russia.
