The Zhitong Finance App learned that Omdia's latest research report shows that in the second quarter of 2026, global semiconductor revenue surpassed 425 billion US dollars, another record high, and the month-on-month (QoQ) growth rate reached 31.4%, setting a record. AI demand and strong memory prices continue to be the main drivers of the market, bringing total semiconductor revenue to $752 billion in the first half of 2026. Second quarter revenue increased 31.4% month-on-month, surpassing the record of 29.2% month-on-month growth in the first quarter.

Since Omdia began tracking the semiconductor market in the first quarter of 2002, only 10 out of 97 quarters saw revenue growth of more than 10% month-on-month. The last four quarters, beginning in the third quarter of '25, have all achieved double-digit month-on-month growth, and this trend is expected to continue in the third quarter of 2026. Memories are still the main driver of growth, while other semiconductor components are growing more than seasonal, contributing to the strong performance of the market.

The memory market, represented by dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash memory, continues to grow as AI demand reshapes the production priorities of memory suppliers. These production adjustments are affecting the balance between supply and demand, driving up average sales prices (ASP) and revenue. Memory ICs alone accounted for more than half of total semiconductor revenue in the second quarter of 2026.

Memory IC revenue share of semiconductor revenue

The share of memory in semiconductor revenue reached a record high, reflecting record growth in various types of memory chips. Since Omdia began tracking this market, DRAM, NAND, and NOR chips all recorded the highest month-on-month growth records for the second consecutive quarter. The quarterly revenue for all three products reached record highs in the second quarter of 2026.

Excluding memory chips, the broader semiconductor market performed equally well in the second quarter of 2026. The significant impact of memory chips has tilted the overall revenue trend in the semiconductor market towards the performance of DRAM and NAND. Excluding the revenue associated with these chips can more clearly reflect the current market situation faced by most semiconductor companies.

The non-storage semiconductor market grew by more than 10% month-on-month, far above seasonal patterns. According to Omdia data from 2002 to 2025, the typical month-on-month growth rate for non-storage semiconductors in the second quarter was only slightly above 3%.

Other components have also benefited from being incorporated into the AI infrastructure. As these components play an increasingly important role in the AI field, microprocessor (MPU) revenue increased 16% month-on-month in the second quarter of 2026, far higher than its 1% seasonal growth rate.

In the first half of 2026, the semiconductor industry's revenue exceeded 750 billion US dollars. This figure already exceeds the annual revenue for all years except 2025. Omdia predicts that semiconductor revenue in the third quarter of 2026 will exceed 500 billion US dollars, bringing the total revenue for the first three quarters of 2026 to more than 1.25 trillion US dollars. This figure will be 50% higher than total semiconductor revenue for the whole of 2025. Strong market conditions and record quarterly revenue levels are expected to continue.
