On September 22, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held a regular press conference for September. Zhong Bin, director of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, together with relevant departments, has jointly carried out actions to investigate and rectify hidden environmental safety hazards of heavy metals, and phased progress has been made. The first is to establish a technical system for the prevention and control of heavy metals. Formulate technical guidelines for the investigation, evaluation and remediation of hidden environmental safety hazards of heavy metals and technical points for preparing remediation plans and the “Lead and Zinc Industry Air Pollutant Emission Standards”; second, basically complete investigation of pollution sources involving heavy metals and environmental risk assessments to promote border inspection and control; and third, enhance environmental monitoring and early warning capabilities for heavy metals. In areas such as the downstream of heavy metals industrial parks and drinking water sources in key watersheds, build automatic heavy metal-related water quality monitoring stations and online monitoring devices to promote early detection, early warning, and early disposal of heavy metal pollution risks.
