The 48th WorldSkills Competition kicks off tonight in Shanghai. 1,385 contestants from 68 countries and regions participated in this year's World Championship. The number of participating countries and regions and the number of contestants were the highest in history. The 71 contestants sent by the Chinese delegation will participate in all 64 events. Known as the “WorldSkills Olympics”, the WorldSkills Competition is the highest level, largest scale, and most influential international vocational skills competition in the world. It is held every two years, and 47 sessions have been held so far. Currently, it has covered 90 countries and regions around the world and two-thirds of the world's population. A total of 64 contests were set up for this year's competition, covering 6 categories including manufacturing, transportation, construction, information, creativity, and service. There are not only long-standing projects, such as cooking, beauty, carpentry, and flower art; there are also 7 new projects added in line with changes in the industry, such as drone systems and smart security technology.
