According to BHP Billiton's official account, BHP Billiton and China Baowu Steel Group Co., Ltd. have renewed a new memorandum of understanding to continue deepening the steel decarbonization partnership between the two sides. Based on five years of close collaboration and multiple joint project practices since 2020, the two sides will further expand the depth and breadth of cooperation. One of the key areas of cooperation between the two sides is to promote blast furnace transformation technology and use BHP Pilbara iron ore to carry out demonstration applications. The goal is to show that this technology path can reduce carbon dioxide emission intensity by at least 30% compared to traditional blast furnace processes; with carbon sequestration and renewable energy conditions, the emission reduction rate is expected to exceed 80%.
