The German federal government and state governments have agreed on a 2.5 billion euro bailout plan, which includes implementing fuel tax relief for a period of three months starting in October and a temporary fuel price cap plan to ease the pressure on motorists and businesses. The energy tax on gasoline and diesel will be cut by 14 euro cents per liter, plus the VAT portion, the total tax reduction is about 17 euro cents. The Ministry of Finance will use this year's unused budget funds and make up for the remaining portion through “mixed financing measures”. The German states will bear half of the cost of 2.5 billion euros.
