11:30 PM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission sent a statement of objections for the proposed sale of Anglo American's (AAL.L, AGL.JO) Brazilian nickel business to Hong Kong-listed mining and metals company MMG. Following an in-depth investigation, the European Union's executive body on Wednesday noted preliminary concerns that MMG could divert the businesses' low-carbon ferronickel supply away from European stainless steel producers and direct it to its affiliated producers. It added that supply diversion and the limited alternative supply sources could affect the prices of low-carbon ferronickel and stainless steel production in the European Economic Area. The commission noted that the statement of objections does not prejudge the result of its investigation. MMG may examine the statement and reply or request a hearing. Anglo American and MMG did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
