NanoXplore came into this earnings print with a bruised chart and a big promise. The share price has slipped roughly 11% over the past month, even as the long term story around commercial graphene keeps pulling in growth‑oriented investors. Then Q4 landed with a different kind of message. Revenue reached CA$33.9 million and losses narrowed, with basic earnings per share improving to a loss of CA$0.0086 compared with deeper red ink earlier in the year. The results turned the focus squarely onto one issue: the margin squeeze now matters more than the hype.

The upbeat pitch around NanoXplore is clear. Graphene partnerships like Techmer and CP Chem plus VoltaXplore are supposed to turn regulatory pressure on CO2 and recycling into higher margin, commercially proven volume. Recent numbers partly back that up. Product revenue excluding tooling rose about 17% and product gross margin improved from 20.6% to 23%, which fits the idea that more graphene rich applications are starting to matter. Q4 generated positive operating cash flow of CA$3.6 million and free cash flow of about CA$0.65 million, helped by lower CapEx and more disciplined spending. On the project side, graphene films with Techmer have delivered over 70% strength gains and are targeting orders in H2 FY2027, while insulating foams now have active trials with players covering most of North American output. The promise is visible, although still concentrated in pilots and early programs rather than broad commercial rollout.
The sceptical view is that NanoXplore faces shrinking profitability, slow adoption and execution risk that can cap upside. That concern is not fully eased. Full year revenue of CA$117.3 million sits below the prior CA$129 million and adjusted gross margin fell 220 bps to 22.5%, even though product only margins improved. The business still posted a net loss of CA$11.83 million over the trailing twelve months, and Q4 earnings per share remained in the red at a CA$0.0086 loss. TriboGraf’s commercial rollout has already hit a setback after CP Chem lost a key prospect for non product reasons, which keeps timing uncertain. Several key catalysts, from thin films with Techmer to insulating foams and graphene in cement, are now explicitly framed as 2027 and beyond events. The partnership thesis remains intact, but the bear argument about timing and profit pressure finds fresh support.
