Hong Kong Tourism Board: Visitors to Hong Kong rose 6% year on year in August to 5.46 million, a record high in a single month after the outbreak

The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hong Kong Tourism and Development Board announced that the initial number of visitors to Hong Kong in August was 5.46 million, an increase of 6% over the previous year, a record high in a single month after the outbreak. Among them, many large-scale international exhibitions and events, including the “16th World Chinese Insurance Conference and 2026 International Dragon Award IDA Annual Meeting”, “Hong Kong Soccer Festival (HKFF) 2026”, and the “TIMA International Music Awards”, attracted the participation of various visitors to Hong Kong and other markets.

The first eight months of this year recorded a cumulative total of about 36.67 million visitors to Hong Kong, an increase of 11% over the previous year. Meanwhile, the overall performance of mainland China and long-haul markets remained stable; the short-haul market continued to face challenges in passenger growth under the influence of factors such as air capacity, fuel surcharges, and regional competition.

Looking ahead to the next few months, the Hong Kong Tourism and Development Board will step up the promotion of Chinese and Western festivals, including hosting the “International Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Festival”, launching a Halloween promotion soon after, and expanding the scale of flagship events such as the “Hong Kong Cycle Festival”, “Hong Kong Wine and Food Festival”, “Hong Kong Colorful Winter Parade” and “Hong Kong New Year Countdown” to attract more high-value-added overnight visitors to Hong Kong and use tourism to drive the economy.
