The impact of the slowdown in the year-on-year increase in gasoline prices was offset by increases in travel packages and rent prices. On a month-on-month basis, the consumer price index fell 0.1%, which is also in line with the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. The Bank of Canada's preferred two core inflation indicators, the median CPI and the truncated average, also remained unchanged at 2% and 1.9%, respectively. The data shows that although the Bank of Canada is increasingly concerned about the risk of inflation brought about by the Iran war, potential price pressure in August was still under control.
