From an industry perspective, industries with median pay higher than the national median are mostly concentrated in the service industry, including business services, consumer goods, IT, pharmaceuticals, retail, and hotels. IT and pharmaceuticals are the highest paying industries. Lu Yang, executive director and board member of the South China and Southwest China Chamber of Commerce of the German Chamber of Commerce in China, told reporters that salary performance for professional functions such as R&D and technology is still outstanding, and positions such as marketing and distribution are showing similar trends. Salary growth for these positions is higher than average. Lu Yang said that the electronics, consumer goods and chemical industries are expected to see the highest wage increases next year. In contrast, wage growth in the construction, service, and retail and hospitality industries has been relatively slow.
