Alphabet's Google plans to make Europe's largest investment in Finland, investing at least €13 billion to build artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company said in a statement on Wednesday that investment projects over the next two years include building at least three new data centers and expanding its existing data center in the southeastern Finnish city of Hamina. Google's move is part of a large-scale expansion of computing power in this Nordic country, superimposing about 43 billion euro related projects planned or under construction locally. Relying on Finland's relatively cold climate, these projects have lower cooling requirements, and heat generated by servers can also be recycled for residential heating. Furthermore, 96% of the Nordic country's electricity comes from carbon-free energy, mainly composed of nuclear power and renewable energy. Local freshwater resources are abundant, and most data centers in Finland use closed loop systems to reduce water consumption.
