BASF Sues Apple for Infringing on Face Recognition Technology Patents

12:25 AM EDT, 09/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- A unit of German chemicals company BASF (BAS.F) sued Apple (APC.F) in the US for infringing on its face authentication technology patents, Reuters reported Thursday. The lawsuit in the US District Court in Midland, Texas, seeks unspecified damages and a halt to the patent violations. BASF's trinamiX unit accused the iPhone maker of using its technology that covers a significant vulnerability in face recognition systems. Apple and BASF did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
