On August 26, during the 2026 Nuclear Fusion Energy Conference and Nuclear Fusion Activity Week, Wang Zhongcheng, Counsellor of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that strengthening international cooperation in science and technology innovation is still the mainstream of the development of the times. Deep adjustments in international power comparisons have also enabled China to independently plan international space and shape the external environment. Wang Zhongcheng pointed out that the next ten years, especially the “15th Five-Year Plan” period, will be a critical period of pressure for China to carry out international scientific and technological cooperation, as well as a period of strategic opportunity to consolidate the “circle of friends” of international scientific and technological cooperation.
