Moody's Expects No Immediate Rating Implications for Banca MPS in Offer for Banco BPM, Banca Generali

11:41 PM EDT, 08/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Moody's said Tuesday it expects Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena's (BMPS.MI) parallel exchange offers for fellow Italian lenders Banco BPM (BAMI.MI) and Banca Generali (BGN.MI) to have no immediate impact on its Baa1 deposit rating with a positive outlook. The rating agency attributed its assessment largely to a pending takeover offer for Banca MPS from Intesa Sanpaolo (ISP.MI) and to the uncertainties surrounding the newly launched parallel offers, which are subject to the approval of shareholders and relevant regulators, among other preceding conditions. Moody's said information is still limited regarding the final structure of the transaction, adding that additional details could affect its assessment of future rating implications.
