The Spanish government completed the first round of approval of two drafts involving immigration and asylum system reforms on the 25th. It plans to simplify immigration repatriation and international asylum application procedures to deal with the ongoing Ceuta immigration crisis. Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marasca said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting on the same day that the draft aims to “adapt Spanish laws to the new immigration situation” and further link them with the EU Convention on Immigration and Asylum.
