Citing a joint statement between Iran and Oman, the Oman News Agency reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Alagazi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi discussed a “temporary framework” aimed at resuming shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, the two sides are continuing long-standing negotiations on the navigation issue of this key waterway. According to the statement, the initiative proposes to establish a “temporary joint maritime corridor” and carry out demining projects to restore the safety of shipping in the region. The statement said that the two sides will continue to hold technical talks to reach agreement on the future management mechanism for permanent maritime corridors and straits, as well as information exchange, shipping management, and related maritime and safety service arrangements.
