A group of Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Walsh expressing concern about proposed changes to the central bank's annual policy meeting schedule. According to the minutes of the Federal Reserve's July policy meeting, Walsh proposed the idea of reducing the number of annual policy meetings of the Committee from 8 to 6. Lawmakers asked Walsh seven questions about the proposal and asked him to respond by September 2. A letter co-signed by Senators Ruben Gallego, Andy Kim, Chris Van Hollen, Angela Alsobrooks, Elizabeth Warren, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Tina Smith stated, “We are concerned that reducing the number of meetings will reduce the Committee's ability to cope with the rapidly changing economic situation, and is tantamount to unilaterally changing the way the Federal Reserve communicates with the market and the American public.”
