10:12 AM EDT, 08/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Societatea Energetică Electrica (ELSA.L) said Monday it signed an agreement to develop a cogeneration plant based on natural gas-powered internal combustion engines in Romania. The plant located in Craiova will have an installed electrical capacity of approximately 82 megawatts and a thermal capacity of around 179 gigacalories per hour. The Romanian energy company said the thermal energy from the plant will replace an existing coal-based source, reducing emissions and pollution while supplying the city's centralized district heating system. The project will be developed in two phases, comprising the installation of hot water boilers and the subsequent commissioning of cogeneration engines.
