10:53 AM EDT, 08/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Dutch Data Protection Authority issued an 825 million-euro fine against Uber Technologies (UBER.VI, UT8.F) for violating the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation through unannounced, automated deactivations of drivers' accounts, Reuters reported Friday. A Monday decision reviewed by the news agency ruled that the ride-hailing giant's drivers have the right not to be subjected to automated decision-making, and to be notified of such decisions. The case stems from incidents in Europe between 2020 and 2022, when Uber temporarily suspended drivers' accounts over fraud suspicions, according to the report. Uber did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
