Cogstate came into this result with the stock at A$2.93 and a solid double digit return over the past three months, so expectations were already warm. The headline today is simple: this is a revenue and margin story. Full year revenue reached about US$60.9m and earnings from continuing operations were about US$11.9m, which puts the reported net margin near 19.5%. The bigger hook for you as an investor is forward visibility, with management highlighting a sharp jump in new contracts and a healthy pool of contracted future revenue.

Bulls argue Cogstate is turning neuroscience tools and AI into a scalable, higher margin platform with better visibility. FY26 goes a long way to backing that up. Revenue of about US$60.9m and net margin near 19.5% line up with the company’s talk of operating leverage, helped by an EBIT margin in the mid 20s and H2 EBIT reportedly around 30 to 35%. The real milestone is contracts. A$89m of new contract sales in FY26, very large growth year on year, and 171 active trials with 90 new starts show that the Medidata and other channel partnerships are feeding a much broader trial base. Contracted future revenue of A$118.5m, with A$48.3m expected in FY27, gives the kind of forward visibility bulls have been looking for.
Bears worry Cogstate leans too hard on a few pharma trials, spends ahead of revenue on AI, and flatters earnings with one offs. Some of that caution still holds. Gross margin eased from 61% to 58% as capacity spending pulled on profitability, even though H2 recovered to about 62%. Management also flagged that FX hedging helped FY26 EBITDA and should not be viewed as repeatable, which supports concerns about earnings quality. The business remains closely tied to CNS clinical trial funding, and management itself highlighted timing lumpiness in contract conversion. At the same time, the sharp rise in active trials and broader indication mix into mood, sleep and rare disease slightly reduces concentration risk, so the bear argument now leans more on execution of the multi year AI platform than on immediate financial stress.
