Phoenix Mecano stock closed at CHF443 today, only slightly above where it was trading a month ago, even after investors digested fresh half year numbers. The headline from these results is not the modest revenue move. It is the sharp jump in operating profitability, with earnings before interest and tax up 23.5% on the back of stronger margins in the industrial units.
Over a longer horizon the story shifts to valuation. The stock trades on a trailing P/E of 14x, while peers sit much higher. Against that backdrop the earnings beat on margins rather than sales will be what long term investors focus on.

The positive narrative around Phoenix Mecano assumes that industrial exposure, supply chain moves and efficiency work can turn modest sales progress into much stronger profit growth. H1 2026 largely supports that. Group net sales were €383.4m with only low single digit growth, yet EBIT rose 23.5% to €26.3m and EBITDA rose 15.5%. The heavy lifting came from Enclosure Systems and Industrial Components. Enclosure Systems lifted EBIT margin from 13.8% to 15.0%, while Industrial Components lifted margin from 2.5% to 8.2%. That points to better mix and cost discipline rather than a broad cyclical surge. Incoming orders of €383.2m and a book to bill of 0.98 show demand is at least keeping pace with revenue. The weak DOT margin at 2.3% shows the turnaround there is not yet a win, but group level margin traction is clearly visible.
The cautious view argues that weak furniture exposure, cyclicality and product pressure could cap Phoenix Mecano’s profitability and offset industrial gains. H1 2026 gives some support to that. DOT sales of €166.8m were slightly lower and EBIT margin slipped from 3.3% to 2.3%, affected by weak furniture demand, higher electronics and logistics costs and about €1.5m of one off items. Management also flags that more one off charges are possible, which means earnings risk from restructuring is not finished. Group incoming orders only slightly exceeded prior year levels and the book to bill ratio of 0.98 shows no clear upturn yet for a cyclical recovery story. That said, Enclosure Systems and Industrial Components are currently offsetting DOT weakness at EBIT level, so the bear case of margin compression across the group is not playing out in these results.
