The Iraqi government said on the 18th that the Iraqi government has approved relevant mechanisms to allow crude oil to be exported through various ports through specialized international and local companies. Reuters quoted an Iraqi government statement as reporting that the contract under the new export mechanism came into effect on September 1 for a period of 3 months. The Iraqi government has yet to announce specific details such as the selected companies, the amount of crude oil it plans to export under this mechanism, and export ports. Before the war broke out in Iran at the end of February this year, Iraq produced about 4 million barrels of crude oil per day and exported an average of 105 million barrels per month. Most of this was shipped from the Basra oil terminal in southern Iraq and via the Strait of Hormuz. After the passage through the Strait of Hormuz was blocked, Iraq increased the development of alternative export routes, including through Turkey and Syria, in order to reduce its dependence on the Gulf route.
