On August 14, local time, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garib Abadi posted on social media: “The oil pollution along Qeshm Island is the result of foreign military aggression in the region.” Garib Abadi also said, “The damage to the environment along the Persian Gulf further highlights the need for Iran as a coastal country to develop and implement a management mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.” Iranian authorities previously reported that oil had flowed into the fragile mangroves of Qeshm Island and spread to the southern coast of the island.
