Barclays Bank strategists are moderately bullish on the rollover of German treasury bonds, bourbon whiskey, SATZ, Italian treasury bonds, and Austrian treasury bonds after they established short positions during the July decline. The strategist said that as the contract price rebounded from a low in late July, some of the short positions may have been closed recently. “Looking at the current situation, we think CTA and momentum investors may generally hold a certain number of short positions in many recent month contracts,” said strategists including the following. Max Kitson wrote, “Any operation to extend a short position to a reverse contract may put more upward pressure on the extended contract before the initial notice period begins.” Since the beginning of July, the price of German treasury bond futures has continued to fall, while the number of open contracts has risen, indicating that short positions are increasing; some short positions have been cut. Barclays said rolling the remaining short positions to reverse contracts may put more profit pressure on rolling trades.
