On August 11, Samsung SDI announced an agreement with GM to jointly develop next-generation electric vehicle batteries. Prismatic battery products developed under the agreement are expected to be used in GM's next-generation electric vehicle models. Samsung SDI also agreed to buy all of GM's shares in the joint venture SynergyCells in Indiana, USA, and take over the company. Synergy Cells' design has an annual production capacity of 27 GWH, a planned investment of US$3.5 billion, and the plant is currently under construction.
