11:44 AM EDT, 08/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Imperial Brands (IMB.L) plans to lay off thousands of workers in Europe and the US as part of its cost-cutting measures, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. The British tobacco company will reportedly start informing impacted workers of its subsidiary ITG Brands on Aug. 19, with those working in the human resources, finance, procurement, and supply chain departments covered in the first phase. In the second phase, it is said to notify staff in April 2027 and begin layoffs mid-year. Imperial Brands has also been in talks with the European Union on planned redundancies, subject to consultation, the report added. Imperial Brands did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
