On August 6, 2026, Hou Yanqi, Director of the Department of Border and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gao Shi, Co-Secretary of the East Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, co-hosted the 36th meeting of the Sino-Indian Border Affairs Consultation and Coordination Working Mechanism in New Delhi, India. Representatives from the foreign affairs, defense, internal affairs, immigration and other departments of the two countries attended. The two sides conducted a constructive dialogue in a frank and friendly manner, had an in-depth exchange of views on further implementing the consensus reached at the 24th meeting of the Special Representative on the Sino-Indian Border Issue, and agreed to jointly prepare for the 25th meeting of the Special Representative on the Sino-Indian Border Issue. The two sides also discussed topics such as border demarcation, border control, institution-building, and cross-border cooperation. The two sides agreed to maintain communication through diplomatic and military channels to jointly maintain peace and tranquillity in the border area.
