According to Woofun AI, the Bank of Korea has added an asset tokenization team within the digital currency sector. This institutional restructuring indicates that the country's financial infrastructure modernization process has officially moved from the early experimental research stage to the operation and regulatory construction stage.

Notably, major economies such as the US, the UK, and Japan have taken the lead in completing the design framework for digital government bonds or entering the commercial application stage. Bank of Korea officials emphasized that the group was set up to maintain global competitiveness through internal experiments. Asset tokenization essentially transforms asset rights into digital tokens on a blockchain or distributed ledger. Its core application scenario is the digitization of government bonds to significantly improve settlement efficiency, transparency and accessibility.

According to Woofun AI, this technology path not only fits the “Virtual Asset User Protection Law” implemented in 2024, but will also profoundly affect the market pattern of Asia's fourth-largest economy. For commercial banks, fintech companies, and institutional investors, tokenization is expected to lower the minimum investment threshold, achieve a partial ownership structure, and simplify post-transaction processing.

However, vague legal definitions, cybersecurity risks, and cross-border interoperability issues are still challenges that need to be addressed urgently, paving the way for the subsequent development of tokenized securities and stablecoins.

The move sent a clear signal to the private sector that central banks are taking digital asset innovation seriously. By drawing on the experience of international peers and establishing systematic operating methods, the Bank of Korea strives to balance promoting innovation and ensuring stability. As the group begins its work, market participants will closely track specific policy directions and pilot project progress. This will be a key step in the tokenization of Asian financial markets following the layout of major economies.
