$7.7 billion WBTC migration: BitGo (BTGO.US) reshapes cross-chain security

According to Woofun AI, escrow service provider BitGo (BTGO.US) announced the full migration of its core cross-chain infrastructure to Chainlink's CCIP interoperability agreement, involving assets including $7.7 billion worth of Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).

This architecture upgrade aims to solve the long-term security risks of traditional digital cross-chain bridges. WBTC anchors Bitcoin at a 1:1 ratio on chains such as Ethereum, providing key liquidity for DeFi. According to data compiled by Woofun AI, the new architecture reduces the risk of systemic disruptions through a decentralized network of at least 16 independent node operators.

At the same time, the platform supports custom transfer limits and transaction control rules, and can automatically implement restrictions when abnormal activity occurs. With the Chainlink cross-chain token framework, BitGo (BTGO.US) can deploy a unified WBTC version, retain ownership of contract technology, and implement standardized verification mechanisms to unify risk management and control models.

Mike Belshe, CEO of BitGo (BTGO.US), emphasized that the move focuses on enterprise-level risk management to ensure that customers meet operational reliability and compliance standards as they expand new networks. This decision echoes a significant shift in the direction of capital flows in the industry: approximately $15 billion was transferred from LayerZero to Chainlink following the Kelp DAO security incident in April 2026. As of August 2026, Chainlink has supported around 70% of the global DeFi ecosystem, providing $110 billion worth of guarantees.

In the next few weeks, Wrapped Bitcoin will be officially deployed on the CCIP protocol. The market will be closely watching the progression of this transition process and how BitGo (BTGO.US) integrates new digital assets under uniform operating standards, which marks the entry of cross-chain escrow into a new security paradigm.
