SpaceX is setting its sights on major US telecom service providers. In the company's first earnings call, CEO Gwen Shortwell mentioned the revenue scale of AT&T, Verizon Communications, and T-Mobile US, and said Starlink will target users of these companies. “I expect we can get quite a few of their customers because I think our service would be better,” Shortwell said. Telecom and satellite industry executives and analysts are already discussing the threat SpaceX could pose to existing mobile service providers. Shortwell said SpaceX can expand mobile services by deploying cellular base stations directly on Starlink broadband antennas. In this way, the network can make use of ground equipment and Starlink satellite connections. “You can deploy as needed,” she said.
