Manufacturing activity in the US expanded at its fastest rate in more than four years in July, mainly due to strong demand, surging production, and companies' efforts to increase employees. The American Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index rose to 55.6 in July, the highest level since May 2022, and has remained above the boom and bust line for seven consecutive months. The production index rose to 58.5, the highest level since the end of 2021; the employment index also showed that the manufacturer increased the number of employees for the first time since September 2023.
