Keith Mansfield Spends UK£54k On Motorpoint Group Stock

Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Motorpoint Group Plc (LON:MOTR) Independent Non-Executive Director, Keith Mansfield, recently bought UK£54k worth of stock, for UK£1.25 per share. Nevertheless, it only increased their shareholding by a minuscule percentage, and it wasn't a massive purchase by absolute value, either.

Motorpoint Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CEO & Director, Mark Carpenter, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for UK£139k worth of shares at a price of UK£1.39 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (UK£1.21). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Mark Carpenter was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership Of Motorpoint Group

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Motorpoint Group insiders own about UK£13m worth of shares. That equates to 14% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Motorpoint Group Insiders?

The recent insider purchase is heartening. But we can't say the same for the transactions over the last 12 months. We don't take much heart from transactions by Motorpoint Group insiders over the last year. But they own a reasonable amount of the company, and there was some buying recently. In short they are likely aligned with shareholders. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing Motorpoint Group.
