12:14 AM EDT, 07/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Fitch Ratings affirmed UniCredit's (UCG.MI) long-term issuer default rating at A- with a stable outlook on Monday. The rating agency said the affirmation reflects its expectations for UniCredit's credit if it gains effective control over Commerzbank (CBK.F). Italian lender UniCredit completed its voluntary takeover offer for its German peer in July. Fitch added that the affirmation is also based on the rating headroom available for UniCredit as it navigates the potential negative short-term impacts on capitalization and earnings while consolidating Commerzbank. It also noted that the potential acquisition is expected to have positive rating implications over time.
