Ford Motor Company reached and approved a labor agreement with the union representing its Canadian employees. The agreement will raise salaries and pay bonuses to tens of thousands of workers, while the car company promised additional investment in an engine plant in southwestern Ontario. Ford said in a press release that during the three-year term of the agreement, hourly workers' wages will be raised by 9%. Eligible full-time regular employees can receive a $10,000 agreement approval bonus, while temporary employees can receive $2,000. In addition to the 550 million Canadian dollar investment previously planned, this collective labor agreement also added 700 million Canadian dollars to invest in the Essex engine plant in Windsor, Ontario. Ford said that the additional capital invested in the Essex plant will be used to “increase the production capacity of 5.0-liter engines” and support the production of larger displacement engines, and that a large number of parts produced by the plant will be shipped to Ford's various vehicle assembly plants in the US.
