Central Bank: As of the end of June, overseas institutions held 3.20 trillion yuan of interbank market bonds

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on July 17, central bank data showed that as of the end of June 2026, overseas institutions held 3.20 trillion yuan of interbank market bonds, accounting for about 1.8% of the total escrow volume of the interbank bond market. In terms of securities, overseas institutions held 2.01 trillion yuan of treasury bonds, accounting for 62.8%, policy financial bonds of 0.75 trillion yuan, accounting for 23.4%, interbank deposits of 0.28 trillion yuan, accounting for 8.8%, and 0.16 trillion yuan of other types of bonds, accounting for 5.0%.

In June, 4 new overseas institutional entities entered the interbank bond market. By the end of June, a total of 1,200 overseas institutions had entered the market. Of these, 635 had entered the market through settlement agency channels, 841 had entered the market through the “Bond Connect” channel, and 276 had entered the market through two channels at the same time.

In June, the cash trading volume of overseas institutions in the interbank bond market was about 1.71 trillion yuan, with an average daily trading volume of about 81.4 billion yuan.
