Hong Kong Companies Registry: About 122,500 newly registered local companies and registered companies in Hong Kong in the first half of the year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that statistics released by the Hong Kong Companies Registry today (July 17) show that the total number of newly registered local companies and registered companies in the first half of 2026 was 122,481. By the end of June this year, the total number of local companies and registered companies registered under the Companies Ordinance reached 1,609,720, a record high.

In the first half of 2026, a total of 903 non-Hong Kong companies established new places of business in Hong Kong and registered under the Companies Ordinance. By the end of June 2026, the total number of registered non-Hong Kong companies reached 16,014, a record high.

The company relocation system was implemented on May 23, 2025, and the market response was positive in the first year of implementation. By the end of June 2026, the department had received 70 applications. Among them, 42 companies had successfully relocated to Hong Kong, including 2 insurance companies and 1 listed company. The original places of registration of such companies include the British Virgin Islands, Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands, and Bermuda.

The number of corporate property charges registered in the first half of 2026 was 7,225, while the number of notices of payment and cancellation of property charges registered during the same period was 10,336.

The number of documents delivered to the Department for registration in the first six months of 2026 was 1,727,449.

In terms of electronic search services, the number of cases where the public inspected the video records of documents in the first half of 2026 was 2,586,117.

In terms of limited partnership funds, the number of new registrations in the first half of 2026 was 406. As of the end of June 2026, the total number of limited partnership funds was 1,729.

In terms of open-ended fund companies, the number of newly established open-ended fund companies in the first half of 2026 was 79. As of the end of June 2026, the total number of open-ended fund companies was 752.

As for trust or company service provider licenses, the department issued 333 new licences in the first half of 2026. As of the end of June, the total number of relevant licensees was 7,412.

In terms of money lenders licences, in the first half of 2026, the Licensing Court issued 66 new licences. As of the end of June, the total number of licensed money lenders was 1,962.
