The UAE's Abu Dhabi National Petroleum Company confirmed on the 14th that its two oversized crude oil carriers “Mombasa” and “Bahia” were attacked by flying objects while passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the early morning of the same day. The UAE News Agency reports that 1 person has died and 8 others have been injured as a result of the incident. The Abu Dhabi National Petroleum Company issued a statement on the same day saying that both tankers were seriously damaged during the attack, and the statement strongly condemned the attacks on civilian ships and their seafarers. The UAE Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the same day condemning the attack, saying it seriously violated international law, and stated that the UAE military was fully prepared to deal with any threat. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement on the same day saying that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail is unacceptable, and that it directly threatens regional stability and global energy and trade security. Also, according to two notices issued by the British Maritime Trade Operations Office on the 14th, two oil tankers were hit by missiles while sailing outward along the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred about 13 nautical miles southeast of Limay, Oman. People familiar with the matter revealed that the two tankers attacked should have been those confirmed by the UAE mentioned above. After the US-Iran memorandum of understanding was reached, the strait formed two passageways, the northern waterway controlled by Iran and the southern waterway close to the Oman side. The US military provided navigation assistance in the southern waterway.
