Citi published a report that the Bank of China's revenue growth for the second quarter of 2026 is expected to remain resilient. It is expected to increase 6.8% year over year, down from 7.4% in the first quarter, mainly due to the high base of transaction earnings. Revenue growth in the next quarter was mainly supported by the following factors, including corporate loan growth that was still steady year-on-year, although slightly slower than in the first quarter; net interest spreads stabilized quarterly; and handling fee revenue grew strongly. The bank expects the asset quality of the Bank of China to remain stable, but it will use strong revenue growth to make more provision for unforeseen needs. As a result, profit is expected to increase by 2.9% year-on-year, which is lower than revenue growth. The bank expects large banks and regional banks to outperform joint stock banks, mainly due to better corporate loan growth. The revenue growth of the four major domestic banks and regional banks such as the Bank of Nanjing and Bank of Ningbo will be stronger; the profits of Bank of Ningbo, Bank of Hangzhou, and Bank of Changshu will grow faster. Among the banks covered, the results of Agricultural Bank of China and Minsheng Bank for the next quarter are likely to exceed market expectations, while Everbright Bank's performance may be disappointing.
