The Zhitong Finance App learned that chip stocks bucked the trend. As of press release, Shanghai Fudan (01385) rose 3.98% to HK$52.3; Huahong Semiconductor (01347) rose 3.19% to HK$92.15; and SMIC (00981) rose 2.81% to HK$76.8.

According to the news, during the CES 2026 exhibition, the three major chip giants Nvidia, AMD, and Intel competed to release next-generation AI chip products one after another to compete for market share. Among them, Nvidia unveiled the next-generation Vera Rubin platform composed of six independent chips at CES. The flagship version will be equipped with 72 GPUs and 36 CPUs. Huang Renxun said that the Vera Rubin platform has been fully put into production and is expected to be shipped later this year. When running chatbots and other AI applications, the artificial intelligence computing power of these chips can reach 5 times that of previous generation chips.

Also worth noting is that on January 6, local time, Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun revealed during the Las Vegas International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the final details of the license (export of H200 chips to China) are currently being completed with the US government, and it is expected that they will soon be delivered to China. Damo pointed out that there is still uncertainty about whether to approve the purchase of H200 chips from all cloud service providers, as it may affect the popularity of domestic chips, but it is expected that cloud service providers will use H200 in combination with local chips, especially in terms of reasoning requirements.

Damo anticipates that the H200 will help meet China's training needs and may bring more demand for inference chips, thereby expanding market demand. The bank is optimistic about SMIC because it is a “key supporter of AI localization in China,” and because demand for advanced logic chips will remain strong, it has a positive view on Chinese chip equipment companies.
