Architecture and design firm Gensler has appointed JJ Rivers as the new Co-Managing Director of its Washington, D.C. office.

Rivers will lead the office alongside Kimberly Sullivan, who has led the office with Francisco Gonzalez since 2024. In April, Gonzalez will formally assume his role as Co-Regional Managing Principal of Gensler’s Southeast region, based in Washington, D.C. and overseeing the firm’s work in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Miami, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Tampa, and D.C.

Rivers is an award-winning architect and Principal at Gensler whose portfolio encompasses major mixed-use developments, sports and entertainment destinations, large-scale master plans, and retail environments.

“JJ’s insight and leadership have elevated our work for years, and I am truly excited to welcome him as Co-Managing Director of our DC office,” said Sullivan. “His vision and steady leadership will be invaluable as we guide our D.C. office into its next chapter, and I look forward to partnering with him to continue delivering impactful work for our clients and communities.”
