US Secretary of Homeland Security Christy Nome said that the two ships seized and boarded and inspected by the US side early this morning are all linked to Venezuela. “Early this morning, the Coast Guard carried out two well-deployed boarding operations in a row, targeting two 'Ghost Fleet' tankers — one in the North Atlantic and the other in international waters near the Caribbean Sea,” Norm said in a post on social networking platform X. She went on to say, “These two ships, the 'Marinella' and the 'Sophia' tanker, have their closest port of call either in Venezuela or on their way to that country.” Norm pointed out that the US Coast Guard's action team fought in collaboration with the corresponding departments of the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and the State Department, and “carried out this operation with professional technology, and completed two safe and efficient boarding and inspection missions within a few hours.”
