BRC: UK Shop Price Inflation Rises to 0.7% in December 2025

11:29 PM EST, 01/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK's shop price inflation jumped to 0.7% year over year in December 2025, from 0.6% in the previous month, according to a survey by the British Retail Consortium published Tuesday. The latest reading reflects the first increase in three months, underpinned by higher food costs during the holiday season. While non-food prices trended lower, food price inflation accelerated to 3.3% from 3%. BRC Chief Executive Officer Helen Dickinson anticipates declining energy rates and better crop supply to help alleviate the cost burden in 2026.
